Main problem:
The existing user interface, modeled after Apple Wallet with a scrollable card stack, becomes inefficient when users have more than 8 activity cards in a month. This design flaw discourages users from reviewing and logging their activities. The user research indicates that 45% of users typically exceed this threshold each month.
Design Challenges:
- Versatility in Design: Develop a solution that supports a wide range of activities, maintaining an effective and aesthetically pleasing interface for users with anywhere from three to eleven activities.
- Streamlined Review Process: Simplify the interface to enhance the ease of viewing past activities.
Explore Options:
1. Scrollbar Replacement: Tested a design that replaces the traditional scrollbar with a minimap index, allowing users to jump directly to specific cards.
2. Dynamic Information Area: Considered altering the information area (the distance between the cards) to be dynamic, ensuring the UI remains contained within a single page, regardless of the number of cards.
After thorough research and usability testing with high-fidelity Figma prototypes, Design Option 2 proved superior. Further refinements were made based on these insights, leading to the decision to advance this design into the functional prototyping phase.
After multiple iterations of functional prototyping, the final design successfully resolved the initial usability issues.
It ensures that the app is not only usable and functional but also delivers a pleasurable and accessible experience. This outcome was achieved by rigorously incorporating user feedback into each design iteration, emphasizing a user-centered development approach.
